The ESPI Project

(Exquisitely Simple Political Ideas)

This project is designed to film honest and spontaneous conversations, between John Rankin and his invited guests, concerning political ideas in the face of a divisive political climate. These conversations will be aired, in part or whole, on broadband and cable television.

There are no “gotcha” questions or manipulated moments of ego-turf debate in view. Rather, the success of the project gains its signature when John and his guests both experience unscripted “aha” moments of learning something new – about each other and/or the subject at hand.

John’s guests are invited from a wide range of professional backgrounds – religion, politics, law, military, education, media, business, science, medicine and the arts. The venues are variable. The idea is for John’s given guest to present a simple proactive political idea that can make a real difference for the well being of all people equally.

The idea is unknown to John ahead of time, out of which flows response and conversation. Then, when appropriate, John will likewise present a simple proactive political idea.

Depending on criteria set ahead of time for a given conversation, one or several questions may be prepared for discussion, on a chosen topic or otherwise.

These conversations are by definition open-ended – where the simple goal is to build honest relationships, regardless of differences in theology or politics. This is an intrinsic good for a shared civil life, and intrinsic to the nature of the Gospel.
